Does Medicare pay for assisted living?
Generally, Medicare does not cover room and board or long-term custodial care in assisted living. Custodial care means help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and eating.
Medicare continues to cover eligible medical services, such as physician visits and hospital care. Because coverage depends on each person's plan, we recommend confirming details directly with Medicare or your plan provider. More information is available at Medicare.gov.
How do families plan for the cost of assisted living?
Families typically plan for assisted living using a combination of personal resources, and some may have long-term care insurance or benefits that can help. Eligibility and coverage vary widely from one family to the next.
We recommend speaking with a financial advisor, elder law attorney or benefits counselor about your family's situation. Our team is also glad to discuss payment arrangements at Hemmingson; please call (208) 664-4222.

- Is care included in the monthly rate, or billed separately?
- How is the care level determined, and how often is it reviewed?
